Ram’s encounters with visually impaired individuals from across India deeply moved him, and he became a beacon of support for those in need. As word of his dedication spread, more and more people reached out to him for guidance and assistance. One critical revelation emerged from these interactions: many visually impaired students aspired to pursue higher education, but they faced a significant obstacle a lack of suitable accommodations that catered to their specific needs. One particularly memorable moment was his role in helping Preeti, a blind young woman, secure employment at a bank. Witnessing the joy on her parents’ faces was a profoundly gratifying experience for Ram.
His remarkable work began to gain recognition within the nonprofit sector, attracting offers from various organizations. However, driven by a deep desire to create a lasting impact, Ram Kumar chose to embark on a different path. With time, Ram Kumar’s mission extended beyond personal assistance to a broader vision. He began mobilizing funds from compassionate individuals who shared his passion for making a meaningful impact on the lives of visually impaired individuals. During this transformative period, Ram sought advice from a doctor who presented a brilliant idea – to establish an organization dedicated to magnifying their efforts and reach. Encouraged by the blind girls and boys he had helped, he followed the call to establish his own NGO. Thus, “Battle for Blindness” was born, becoming a beacon of hope and empowerment for the visually impaired community.
In 2020, the foundation known as ‘Battle for Blindness Foundation’ came into being, with a clear vision and a profound dedication to its cause. It is important to note that, prior to its inception, extensive research and dialogues were conducted with visually impaired individuals, allowing the organization to gain deep insights into their unique needs and challenges.
Ram Kumar’s journey was far from easy; he traversed multiple states, tirelessly working to ignite the passion for extracurricular activities among blind girls and boys. His dedication and willingness to go the extra mile have been instrumental in transforming the lives of countless visually impaired individuals, exemplifying the ethos of the Battle for Blindness Foundation.
