Welcome to the Battle for Blindness Foundation

Welcome to the Battle for Blindness Foundation, where determination knows no limits and endless possibilities. We dedicate our efforts and services to empowering blind and visually impaired individuals, mainly abandoned blind girls from underprivileged families in rural and urban India. We aim to empower, inspire, educate and uplift these individuals to lead lives of dignity and independence.

A Vision Born from Compassion

India is home to approximately 4.95 million blind individuals and 35 million people with visual impairments. Among them, nearly 240,000 children have blindness, with many lacking access to education, employment, and essential support. Recognising this critical gap, Ram Kumar, a passionate changemaker, laid the foundation for what would serve as a beacon of hope for the visually impaired people.

Before officially establishing the Battle for Blindness Foundation, Ram Kumar spent over five years working at the grassroots level, advocating for and assisting blind individuals. His journey started with volunteering for NGOs, where he helped visually impaired individuals with education, employment, and everyday challenges. Witnessing their struggles firsthand, he felt a deep calling to do more.

The Birth of Battle for Blindness Foundation

In August 2020, amidst a global pandemic, Ram Kumar took a bold step to formalise his efforts. The Battle for Blindness Foundation was born from its unwavering commitment to providing free-of-cost shelter, education, and rehabilitation to visually impaired individuals. He launched a residential facility in Delhi with a team of dedicated experts and supporters, ensuring that blind girls from marginalised communities have a safe space to learn, grow, and thrive.

Transforming Lives: One Step at a Time

Since its inception, the Battle for Blindness Foundation has supported 50 abandoned blind girls, offering them a family-like environment with well-ventilated rooms, nutritious meals, medical care, and skill-building programs. Beyond shelter, we empower them with:

  • Educational and financial support: ensuring access to quality education and career guidance.
  • Rehabilitation & skill development: training in mobility, communication, and vocational skills for self-reliance.
  • Employment assistance: helping visually impaired individuals prepare for government exams and job placements.
  • Technology & accessibility support: providing laptops, Braille books, and assistive devices.
  • Social campaigns: initiatives such as walking cane donations, healthy groceries, marriage support for blind couples, and the development of new rehabilitation centers.

A Movement Fueled by Hope

What started as a personal mission has now become a nationwide movement. The Battle for Blindness Foundation is not just about providing aid—it is about creating opportunities, breaking barriers, and shaping a future where blindness is not a limitation but a journey of strength and success. Our work continues, but we move closer to a more inclusive and empowered society with every life transformed.

Join us in our mission to bring light into the lives of the visually impaired. Together, we can build a future where every blind individual has the opportunity to shine.
