Many blind girls face abandonment by their families upon discovering their visual impairment.

“My name is Sikha Kumari and I have a younger sister and brother. Unfortunately, both are blind. Recently, my brother died in Corona pandemic. That led to a very tough life for me. My parents are daily wage labourers and they hardly earn money to get food. Being a blind, and girl, I have a double burden to Society. People said to my father; don’t send her anywhere as she is blind. I felt very depressed, and several times I tried to commit suicide. However, God has listened to my words, and the Battle for Blindness Foundation team found me in very bad shape. I feel very obliged to the team of Battle for Blindness Foundation to bear my food, shelter, and studies expenses. Thanks a lot” – Sikha Kumari, Resident of the Battle for Blindness Foundation

In 2017, Ms. Pranjal Patil became India’s first visually challenged IAS officer. In 2020, GV Oviya became the first visually impaired student of South India to write CBSE board exams using a computer and scored 447 marks out of 500 marks.

Battle for Blindness Foundation also works for the same motive to prosper all the in-housed visually impaired girls. But, the current recession time leads to an extreme financial crisis for our Shelter. Our shelter doesn’t have sufficient grocery items to feed our in-housed visually impaired girls.
